Documentation debt quiz

Five questions to score how far your help center has fallen behind your product, and what to fix first.

What documentation debt is and how to pay it down

What is documentation debt?

Documentation debt is the work your help center owes your product: articles that describe old screens, limits that changed, and questions customers ask that no article answers. Like code debt, it grows quietly with every release.

How the quiz scores you

Each answer is scored from zero to three: how often articles change after releases, whether there's one source of truth, whether you know what's missing, how current screenshots are, and how trustworthy AI answers are. Higher is healthier.

What to fix first

Start with the lowest scoring area. A release routine fixes stale articles; reading unanswered questions fixes missing ones; one help center fixes scattered truth.

FAQ

What is a good documentation debt score?

Treat it as a rough guide: a high score means docs keep up with releases and customer questions; a low one means customers are probably hitting wrong or missing answers.

How do I reduce documentation debt?

Update the articles each release touches, read the questions your docs couldn't answer every week, and keep one help center as the source of truth.

Is my data stored?

No. The quiz runs in your browser and nothing you choose is sent anywhere.

usedocs pays down docs debt for you: edits proposed from merged pull requests, and drafts of the articles customers ask for, in one review queue.
